Paleontologists discovered the fossil of a titanosaur in Neuquén province in the Patagonia region of northeastern Argentina, located in a thick layer of sediment called the Candeleros Formation. The 24 tail bones, parts of the pelvis and pelvic girdle are believed to belong to titanosaurs, a group of sauropod dinosaurs characterized by large size, long neck and tail, and standing on four legs.

The Patagotitan dinosaur may be the largest land animal on the planet, weighing 77 tons, while Argentinosaurus is equally large, 40 m long and weighing 110 tons, more than 12 times larger than the African elephant (9 tons). Experts say the specimen shows that large titanosaurs existed alongside medium-sized and small-sized ѕрeсіeѕ at the end of the Cretaceous period 101 million years ago.
