A fisherman has found a “dragon”-like fish off the coast of Tromsø in Norway, adding to the collection of strange creatures he has pulled from the depths.

Roman Fedortsov, who works on commercial trawlers, was fishing in the Norwegian Sea when he came across the unusual-looking creature.

He took a photo of the fish, which appears to be light pink in color, with large eyes, wing shapes on the body and a long tail.

Sharing the image on Instagram with his 646,000 followers, Roman wrote: “Just one quote: ‘It’s one thing to chase something nameless, but another to find it’ – GF Lovecraft.”

The post racked up more than 22,000 likes, with users left baffled by the strange beast.

“It is better to look at those creatures from afar. In fact, the depths of the sea are unknown,” commented another user.

The fish was identified as a chimera, a cartilaginous fish also known as “ghost sharks.”

Their nets are dropped in an area known as the Twilight Zone, which lies between 3,300 and 6,600 feet below the surface.

Less than 0.05% of this ecosystem has been explored by humans and has yielded some rare species in the past.

The recently discovered strange sea creatures included a sad-looking pale toadfish, a sandy fish that appears to walk on the ocean floor, and a small deep-sea dragonfish called the traffic light loosejaw.
