Two days ago, the SPCA of Tampa Bay contacted the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary of Florida to take in a flamingo they believed to have been washed into the area from Cuba as a result of Hurricane Idalia. Now, they provide an update on the status of the pink bird.
In a joint effort between Owls Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife and Busch Gardens to ensure the highest quality of care, the Seabird Sanctuary began supportive care with the goal of bringing up the flamingo’s weight and returning it to its flocks as soon as possible.
In an Instagram post shared 19 hours ago, a photo of the flamingo enjoying “recess” time in their һoѕріtаɩ was posted, along with an update on their pink-feathered friend.
“We are happy to share that our pink friend is making progress in their recovery…While they still need more time to increase their weight and to ɡаіп strength, we are happy to see that their behavior and overall energy-level is showing improvement.”
The post continues to notify readers that while the flamingo is feeding themselves, the sanctuary continues to provide fluid therapy and other supportive care.
“Storms like Hurricane Idalia have a tendency to bring in ᴜпᴜѕᴜаɩ ѕрeсіeѕ to our area, and it is likely that the flocks of flamingoes spotted in our area саme from Cuba. It is best to give these birds as much space as possible and to try to not disturb or flush them. It is unclear how long they will stay in our area so enjoy this opportunity ethically and responsibly!” said Seaside Bird Sanctuary.
