Shelby texted me on Tuesday morning and told me that labor had begun. Even though she hadn’t experienced an unmedicated labor before she knew that now was the time. We all expected that her birth would occur later in the day, maybe even in the evening, but not long after I received that first text message, I received another telling me to come now.
When I arrived, it was evident that Shelby was in transition. She labored with such strength and beauty. It seemed like her body had given birth vaginally many times! Within just a few hours, she had her sweet baby in her arms. She received her homebirth VBAC, and I know she’ll use her experience to encourage hundreds of other women as they birth at home in the years to come.
