Watch in ѕһoсk as Rescuer Braves Icy River to Save Dog

While conducting their regular patrol on the frozen expanses of Lake Kenon, rescue personnel stumbled upon a heart-wrenching scene: a dog stranded in the merciless cold, with its hind legs and tail trapped beneath the icy surface. This region, situated near the North Pole, endures freezing temperatures year-round, leading to a delicate insulating layer of ice covering its lakes. Despite these harsh conditions, various fish species thrive in these frigid waters, demonstrating their remarkable adaptability to the challenging climate.

Local residents, undaunted by the freezing weather, venture onto the frozen lake with fishing rods in hand. However, this pursuit is not without risks, given the unpredictable thickness of the ice. Ice-breaking and drilling are necessary to access the water, but if not performed with caution, they can result in cracks and perilous ice formations. To address these dangers, rescue teams diligently patrol rivers and glacial lakes, ensuring the swift detection and rescue of those in need. It was during one such patrol on Lake Kenon, near Chita in Zabaykalsky Krai, that the Zabaikalsk rescue team encountered a remarkable situation.

As the team navigated the frozen lake on specialized canoes, they spotted an immobile figure in the bone-chilling -3 degrees Celsius weather. Approaching cautiously, they found a Moscow Watchdog, a breed originating from the crossbreeding of a Caucasian Shepherd and a St. Bernard. Tragically, the dog was ensnared, with its hind legs and tail wedged beneath a small opening in the ice.

Acting promptly, the soldiers broke the ice, freeing the distressed animal and bringing it aboard their vessel to provide much-needed warmth. Perplexed by the dog’s isolated presence in the middle of the glacial lake, the rescue team worried that its owner might have encountered trouble during a fishing expedition. However, their search yielded no results; no human presence or traces were found in the vicinity.

After an exhaustive but futile search, the soldiers transported the dog to their station for care and treatment. In a short period, the dog made a remarkable recovery. Despite efforts to publicize the rescue through local media, no one came forward to claim ownership. It seemed that the dog had been abandoned. As reported by the Siberian Times, once the dog regained its health, the rescue team made the decision to release it back into the wild, offering the resilient creature a chance at a new life.
